2. Wategos & Little Wategos Beach

Fill up your beach bag with snacks and spend a lazy few hours at Wategos or Little Wategos Beach. You can walk here from Wake Up! or hop on our complimentary shuttle bus. This will take you into the town centre, and then take the short walk from there. To get to Little Wategos Beach, walk down the track that stretches between Wategos Beach and the Lighthouse… your new secret swimming spot!

3. Tallow Beach Walk & Cosy Corner

Tallow Beach is a long 6.5km sandy stretch of beach, that’s part of Arakwal National Park. Spend time walking along the beach, and then set yourself up at Cosy Corner. Look up, and you’ll even see hang-gliders launching from above you.

4. Sunset Picnic

There are plenty of scenic spots to enjoy golden hour at sunset without needing a car. The big Water Tower by the Arakwal National Park lookout is a bit of a secret spot and one of our favourites. Also, Agustina recommends Belongil Beach (afterwards, head to The Treehouse for drinks and live music), The Pass and Main Beach.

5. Bike Rides

Enjoy affordable bike hire for guests, and get exploring. For a relaxing ride, we recommend bike riding along Skinner Shoot Road where you’ll have trees surrounding you and catch glimpses of the Hinterland en route.

6. Snorkeling

Join a Snorkeling or Diving Tour with the Byron Bay Dive Centre. You’ll meet at their HQ in the town centre, and they’ll take you out to the epic site at Julian Rock Marine Reserve.

7. The Farm

Hop on a bike, and wheel your way to The Farm. Here, you’ll discover a working farm, plant nursery and sustainable market garden with tours, an onsite restaurant & a bakery. If you’re lucky, you might even catch their sunflower fields in full bloom!

8. Artisan & Farmers Markets

There are regular markets all over the Byron Hinterland, but here are three which you can get to by walking (or on our free shuttle bus to town):

  1. Byron Farmers Market: Thursdays, 8-11am @ Butler Street, across from the Byron Bay Interchange bus stop.
  2. Byron Community Market: 1st Sunday of the month @ Main Beach Foreshore.
  3. Byron Twilight Markets: October – April, 4-9pm @ The Rails Park
9. Stone & Wood Brewery

Byron’s first brewery – Stone & Wood – is only a 12-minute bike ride from Wake Up! Take a brewery tour, or simply enjoy freshly poured tasting paddles and canteen snacks in their Tasting Room.

10. Hot Air Balloon & Skydive

Experience a bucket list-worthy adventure. Balloon Aloft and Byron Bay Ballooning both launch hot air ballon rides from The Farm (contact them in advance to see if a pick up can be arranged). Then there’s skydiving with Skydive Australia! They kick off from Tyagarah Airfield but they also have local transfer packages available so you can get there without a car.

11. Surfing and Paddleboarding

No need to travel too far for a day on the surf! Make use of Wake Up’s free surfboard and stand up paddleboard hire, and hit the waves at nearby beaches like Belongil Beach, Main Beach, or The Pass.
