Byron Bay is the ultimate Aussie beach town, and one of the most popular destinations for backpackers and road trippers. This place does not lack picture-perfect spots. The small beach town known for its relaxed hippie vibe will serve you delicious brunch, friendly locals and stunning scenery. Welcome to the most eastern point in Australia!
Below I’ve listed some of my favourite insta-worthy spots in ‘The Bay’! If you’re looking for what to do, or only have a day or two, this list is for you! All the spots are central to town, so grab a bike or pop on your walking shoes and let’s go!
1. CAPE BYRON LIGHTHOUSE
Byron Bay 101: the Cape Byron Lighthouse walk. It’s a must do. If possible I’d recommend doing it on a clear, sunny day (of course) – but fret not. You will also get beautiful moody pictures on a gloomy day.
This is the place to watch the sunrise, but also the sunset. Enjoy the picturesque vantage points with uninterrupted views and snap some beautiful pictures with the warm colours of sunrise reflecting across the water.

2. BELONGIL BEACH
With beautiful soft white sand and a coast line stretching 2.5km around the bay, it’s no surprise this is one of my favourite ‘grammable spots. A little more secluded, Belongil is the perfect beach for a morning run, a short walk into town and soak up the sun.
If you’re after a bit of action and adventure and want a bit of space to yourself, Belongil is generally quieter than the Main Beach so you can avoid the swarms of crowds and get your pose on. If you’re like me and are staying at the Wake Up Hostel, take advantage of the free beachside yoga, personal training, or even have a go on the surfboards. All board rentals and fitness sessions are free for guests, and better yet, Wake Up is located directly opposite stunning Belongil Beach.
The options are limitless. Throw down your towel and soak up the sun, swim, surf, have a picnic or relax with a nice book. Better yet, there’s usually heaps of dogs; so, if you have a furry friend you’re missing from home, this is THE perfect place to get some cuddles.

3. FOLK CAFÉ
Located a short eight-minute bike-ride from the Wake Up! Hostel you find this cute café in the Arts & Industrial Estate. FOLK is a plant-based café, and may be the only café in town that doesn’t charge extra for non-dairy milk! They are open from early morning to 2pm so it’s the perfect place for brekkie or a relaxed brunch.
Order inside and sit down on one of the tables in the garden where you’ll get the best lighting. If you’re chasing something more retro, sit inside with the boho decor and enjoy the tunes on the stereo.
Hot tip: I recommend getting the avo-toast (below) with poached eggs and dukkah – it’s incredible!

4. SPELL & THE GYPSY COLLECTIVE BOUTIQUE
Byron Bay is certainly not lacking local, vibrant, boho-chic fashion labels, and it’s no wonder Spell & The Gypsy is a favourite both amongst locals, celebrities, and tourists alike. If you’re looking for Byron inspired fashion, look no further!
Their flagship store is an experience in itself and definitely worth the visit. The eye-catching white storefront is for sure insta-worthy. Inside you will find modern-bohemian fashion in true Byron-style. Marvel at the stunning interior before entering the courtyard with a divine lounge area. This place is the perfect place to shop ‘till you drop – in a laidback lounge chair.
Hot tip: their Instagram feed is goals!

5. THE “WELCOME TO BYRON BAY” SIGN
Can you come to Byron and not get a photo in front of this sign?! Absolutely not.
Hop onto a bike (Wake Up’s are free!) and pedal down towards the Industrial Estate. It’s a short bike ride to the sign, but if you’re not sure definitely ask a local and they’ll point you in the right direction. Strike a pose and Cheer up, slow down, chill out!

6. THE MOST EASTERN POINT
Located just near the Cape Byron Lighthouse, this place is striking every time of the day, no matter the weather. I’ve seen the sunrise here twice. The first time it was a beautiful sunny, clear day sky, the second time it was cloudy but just as beautiful in its own way.
There’s something really special about this place, being surrounded by the ocean and the waves crashing against the rocks. It’s the perfect place to simply relax, take a moment and appreciate the views.
Come with the sunrise tour at Wake Up, with a friend, or enjoy it by yourself. Pack a bag (a blanket if its winter) water and some brekkie. Make sure you get up there about 15-20 minutes before sunrise so you can dawn break like nowhere else in Australia.

Whatever you do on your Byron Bay adventure, be you’re sure to have an incredible insta-worthy time. Enjoy!
