As much as we love travelling solo, there are some experiences you just can’t beat sharing with like-minded adventurers and fellow explorers. And when it comes to group experiences, Byron Bay has it all. So whether you’re travelling with a group of old friends or keen to explore with your new travel buddies Byron Bay is the place to be!
Why travel with a group?
- Sharing is caring – some travel experiences are better shared
- You can save money by booking in a group
- Your travel mates might push you to do things you might not do on your own!
- You can learn from your travel buddies and take in other perspectives and interests
A friendly reminder: Remember to always take care of the locations you visit, respect the area, and leave it in the condition you found it in.

Top 15 group experiences
Grab a bite & check out The Farm
The Farm is an 80-acre operating farm, famous for its organic produce and for being a community of small businesses contributing to a healthy lifestyle. Grab breakfast, lunch or dinner, while enjoying nature, and get to see how the farm operates. Walk around Macadamia trees, past the sunflower fields and pig pens. You can either book at the restaurant, or pick up some snacks from their local produce store and sit down on the grass. Perfect for groups, and honestly, extremely tasty.
Top tip: check their website for workshops and tours for a more educational experience.
Rent a boat and cruise Brunswick river
Brunswick Heads is a small coastal town just 15 min drive from Byron, with awesome beaches next to the river and the ocean. For a special and unique group experience, you can book a boat for a party of up to 9 to cruise along the river. Fire up the bbq and enjoy a day on the river – what’s more, there’s no need for a boat license! Check out Brunswick Buccaneers boat hire. Travelling in a big group? No worries. Just rent two and sail together!
Relax at one of the many stunning beaches
There’s no doubt that Byron Bay is full of beautiful beaches! Chill out with your group with a relaxed day of swimming and soaking up the sunshine at one of our favourite local beaches, within walking distance of Wake Up! Byron Bay.
- Wategos Beach – a small sheltered beach 2km away from town.
- The Pass – Perfect for a surf session and awesome views, and just a short walk from town.
- Main Beach – In the centre of town, next to all shops and restaurants. Look out for the local buskers playing music into the evening.
If you have a car, hop in for a visit to Tallow’s Beach, Suffolk Park and/or White’s Beach, Broken Head for a more secluded experience.
Enjoy a local beer at Stone & Wood Brewery
Book a Brewery tour and tasting at Stone & Wood Brewery in the Arts and Industrial Estate. Fancy a few drinks? Sip on our favourite local beer at their canteen and beer garden. Don’t be shy – they have long tables for big groups as well.
Pizza, Drinks & Music @ Treehouse on Belongil
Share the best wood-fired pizzas, cocktails and live music at Treehouse on Belongil, just next door to Wake Up! Byron Bay. Open for lunch and dinner, Treehouse offers a great casual atmosphere, super tasty meals, and daily live music. Can you dream of anything better? Enjoy a surf session or swim, head back to Wake Up! to have a shower and freshen up then head to Treehouse to end your day – or start your night – your choice ;)
Snorkel at Julian Rocks
Julian Rocks Marine Sanctuary is one of the best spots in Australia to snorkel and dive and is home to a variety of incredible marine wildlife, in safe and shallow waters. We recommend booking a Snorkel or Freedive tour with Wild Byron for a fantastic group experience.
Paddleboard along Tea Tree Lake
Grab a paddleboard (complimentary for Wake Up! guests) and head out to the Tea Tree lakes or the ocean for a chilled morning or afternoon. The tea tree lakes (you can find a few in Byron!) are freshwater lakes coloured by the surrounding tea trees, which give a relaxing and healing nature to the water.
Cool tip: there’s one next to Belongil Beach! Your skin will be very grateful, trust us!
Have picnics in one, two, or all the Byron Beaches
Choose between the many amazing beaches the Bay has to offer and have a picnic while enjoying the sunset, sunrise, moonrise, or all. We love a picnic at The Byron Bay Lighthouse for awesome views across the Bay.
Join a Wine & Painting night
What better way to end a day exploring than by rounding up your friends, picking up a bottle of wine and taking part in a fun guided painting lesson? Pinot and Picasso or Art & Wine Co. are our first choices.
Walk up the Cape Byron Lighthouse
Walk up the different trails to the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse, located at Cape Byron State Conservation Area, which sits on Australia’s most easterly point of Australia. It offers a 360-degree view of the area and it’s only a 45min walk from town.
Relax at Kiva Spa
Fancy a pamper? Book a relaxing experience at Kiva Spa in Mullumbimby. For only $30 you can enjoy their garden spa in a bamboo grove, with spa pools, sauna, steam room, plunge pool, plus you can add on massage options. Travelling with the girls? On Wednesdays, Kiva Spa runs ladies’ nights! For a post pamper feed, we love Pink Lotus, an amazing Vietnamese restaurant within walking distance from the spa.
Book a Group Surf Lesson
Book a group surf lesson from the diverse range of surf schools in Byron. Generally, groups are made up of around 15-20 people with professional surf instructors, all equipment and sometimes even photographers to capture your surfing experience included! The instructors will also choose from different local beaches based on the surf conditions that day and the group’s experience level so you’re in good hands!
Explore the Hinterland and Byron surroundings
Explore the Hinterland with a guided group tour for a unique and in-depth experience. Book Behind The Bay for a fun day out and Rise up Byron for a conscious spiritual experience, exploring different spots around the Byron Hinterland. Guided tours offer experiences with different itineraries, but most are happy to adapt to group requests if you’re travelling with a large group. With a smaller group? You can also rent a car and drive yourself to many of the amazing waterfalls in the Byron area, such as Nightcap National Park.
Enjoy drinks & live music @ The Rails or Beachy
You haven’t been to Byron Bay if you haven’t had a beer with the locals at The Railway Friendly Bar, or a dance at the famous Beach Hotel. It’s a local thing, baby! Why not head to all the best local bars on a little pub crawl? Fancy a dance? Casa Luna is the new sensation for cocktails and good DJs!
Bonus: If you are a Wake Up! Byron guest, you can access The Rooftop Bar at The Surf House and enjoy exclusive happy hour specials and pizza deals, pool competitions and great vibes!
