Byron Bay is one of my favourite places in Australia, and there are SO many fun and beautiful things to do here! To help you make the most of your stay at Wake Up! Byron Bay, here’s my little guide:
1. Hike to the Byron Bay Lighthouse
Take a hike up to the iconic lighthouse and take in all of the amazing views along the way. If you’re lucky, you might see dolphins too! I started my day with a morning run up to the lighthouse for sunrise which was stunning!

2. Yoga at the hostel
Start your day with a yoga class at Wake Up! Byron Bay. They run free classes every day at their onsite yoga tent. It’s so zen, surrounded by nature and the perfect way to start your day and embrace the Byron vibes!

3. Relax on the beach
Spend some time exploring the local beaches – there are so many to choose from.
The Pass: The Pass is just a short walk from Wake Up! where you can watch surfers ride the waves.
Belongil Beach: Belongil Beach is just across from the hostel, so it’s perfect for a morning walk or an afternoon surf. Wake Up! offers free surfboard hire when you stay so grab a board from reception and give it a go!
Main Beach: Main Beach is perfect for sunrise or sunset and super close to town.
Tallow Beach: For the most breathtaking sunrise views.
Wategos Beach: My personal favourite! This dreamy little cove is a highlight of the lighthouse walk.
Tip: Join Wake Up!’s free beach walk for a fun and social way to explore the local beaches.

4. Explore by bike
Wake Up! Byron offers cute, Lekker bikes for hire from reception. You can cycle into town in around 10mins, or to some of the boho cafes around Belongil Beach.

5. Check out the local cafes & restaurants
Check out all of the amazing cafes and restaurants in the area – there are so many incredible places to choose from in Byron Bay. We loved Treehouse Byron Bay which is right next to the hostel for brekkie and coffee, then in the evening for the best pizzas and cocktails.

6. Chill by the pool
We spent a lot of time chilling at The Pool Bar at Wake Up! It’s such a dreamy setting with a big swimming pool, palm trees and a pool bar. Get involved in the many hostel activities such as musical bingo, wine and cheese night, beer pong, volleyball tournaments or just relax by the beautiful pool!

7. Trinkets, The Bead Shop
The trinkets beach shop in town is the perfect thing to do on a cloudy day in Byron. You can select the beads you’d like to make your own jewellery. A must-do in Byron.

8. Wander around town
Slow down and chill out in town. I loved looking around all of the little boutique shops in town; there are so many cute crystal and jewellery shops and beautiful boutique homewares and clothes shops.

9. Road trip
If you have a car, then hop in to explore the areas outside of Byron Bay. You’ll find country towns, farmland and nature in the Hinterland area, where I’d recommend visiting Killen Falls, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by nature. Along the coast visit Tea Tree Lake in Lennox Head for a natural (and free!) spa treatment for your skin.

10. Piano Bar
You haven’t experienced Byron Bay if you haven’t had a night out at the Piano Bar. This is such a fun bar in the middle of town where you gather around the stage as a musician plays on the piano. Request your favourite songs and sing your heart out.

So there you have it – my favourite things to do in Byron Bay! Thinking of booking your stay? Don’t forget to book directly with Wake Up! for the best rates.
