Wake Up! Sydney, Bondi Beach and Byron Bay have all taken out top awards in Hostelworld’s annual HOSCARs awards for 2020.
For the first time, the Millett Group’s flagship property, Wake Up! Sydney claimed the top prize and was crowned Best Hostel in Australia.
Wake Up! Byron Bay took out Best Hostel in Byron Bay in just its second year of operation, with the beachside location, free surfboard and bike hire and yoga classes proving popular among guests.
To complete the trifecta, the newest addition to the Wake Up! brand, Wake Up! Bondi Beach won Best Hostel in Sydney in the first year since its refurbishment and rebrand from Bondi Backpackers.
The 2020 HOSCARs (Hostelworld Customer Annual Rating awards) were based on over 1.1 million customer reviews of the 17,700 listed properties over the last year and are considered the Holy Grail of Hostel Awards.
As well as taking out best in Australia, Wake Up! Sydney also finished in the Top 5 for Best Extra-Large Hostels Worldwide, with a rating of 9.3 from close to 8,500 guest reviews on Hostelworld.
The reviews are based on factors such as value for money, customer experience, security, location, cleanliness and facilities. Guests praised Wake Up! Sydney’s great staff, cleanliness and excellent location right near Central Station and close to Darling Harbour, Chinatown, the CBD and the trendy inner-city suburb of Surry Hills.
Other highlights include the hostel’s free walking tours, packed schedule of social events and Sidebar nightclub located on the basement level. The mix of accommodation options were favourable, from mixed and female-only dorms to private rooms with the option of ensuites.
Christian Millett, Owner Operator of Wake Up! said:
This is the fifth year we’ve been recognised by the HOSCARs and each year we are extremely proud of our family-owned and run company. For all three Wake Up! Hostels to take out a category is a testament to our teams and the amazing work they put in.
While each property is unique and matches its location, the key consistencies across the group that have led to Wake Up’s success include a strong focus on quality of product, staff training and service, and our guest experience.
This is also the fourth year our flagship Wake Up! Sydney has finished in the Top 10 for the Best Extra-Large Hostels Worldwide category, having eclipsed last year’s result by two places, finishing fifth behind some of the best hostels in Europe and Asia.
In line with the changing nature of the youth traveller, a big priority for the group is health, wellness and culture. Across all Wake Up! properties, guests can enjoy complimentary yoga, personal training, guided walking tours and more. Bike, surfboard and SUP hire are also all-inclusive at Wake Up! Byron Bay.
